Adrian Zupp

Career Writer/Editor/Freelance Journalist/Feature Writer + Volunteer Crisis Line Counselor

United States

Hi,

I've been a writer/editor, teacher of writing and English/English lit, freelance journalist, and communications professional, my entire career. I'm passionate about writing, especially fiction.

I'm originally from Sydney, Australia. I've lived in the US since 1995 and am a dual citizen.

In addition to my writing, I also care very much about social issues, including poverty, climate catastrophe, and the future of the planet for our kids and grandkids. I've also volunteered for a crisis line and, in a different persona, worked as security at nightclubs on a part-time basis.

My new indie book "All of My Friends Died in Plane Crashes – Fair Dinkum Stories About Wild Aussie Boys (And a Few Wild Sheilas)" will be out in December.

Below you will find a cross-section of my work. It isn't exhaustive but provides a reasonable impression of what I've done over the years.

Have a great day!
Adrian

ALL OF MY FRIENDS DIED IN PLANE CRASHES: Fair Dinkum Stories About Wild Aussie Boys (And a Few...

“Adrian Zupp writes like a house on fire.” – New York Times bestselling author Lucia Berlin. And so it is in the tough, uncompromising, yet often funny stories of ALL OF MY FRIENDS DIED IN PLANE CRASHES. As Australian as shark attacks, this stubbornly unapologetic book shows a side of Australia you won't find anywhere else. Set in the period 1965-1991 (apart from one historical story) PLANE CRASHES is about growing up and breaking out in Sydney's tough western suburbs "back in the day."...

A Good Defense Against Depression: Learning

There is a variety of studies that support the contention that learning new skills can play a significant role in battling age-related brain dysfunctions like dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. But there are also clinicians who hold the view that this practice can help with a variety of mental disorders.

The Tubes - White Punks on Dope Album Reviews, Songs & More | AllMusic

This combination of the Tubes' first couple of albums really does feel like two distinct releases slapped together -- and it's the Grand Canyon-sized gap in quality that makes the demarcation about as subtle as a farting elephant hanging from a chandelier. The innovative San Francisco band's 1975 eponymous debut was, and is, a masterpiece.

Rodeo

by Adrian Zupp He's about five-foot-six and maybe 150 pounds after a three-course pasta dinner. His face is honest and hard and his spurs jingle as he twitches his leg nervously. In about three minutes he will climb onto a 2000-pound bull and try to stay atop the beast for eight blasted seconds without getting his skull cracked.

Promo video for the TV show I did some work on: From The Edge - with Peter Lik. My job was to put words in his mouth if a program seemed flat. Funny lines, basically. I didn't work on every episode.

Promo Team Collaterals

At Las Vegas Weekly I initiated the "Girl On The Street" team of 4 girls who asked tourists on the Strip crazy questions (I wrote). Filmed for the LVW website. Las Vegas Go Girls was my own biz & a bigger team I trained for promotions, events, conventions, club & bar boosts, charity drives (we did these for free) etc. We were close to signing with Budweiser when the economy tanked in 2008. I picked girls who spoke & presented well. Most had degrees. Several could speak two or more languages....
