Ray Nimmo

Sports Editorial Assistant

United States

I'm Ray Nimmo, a writer in Hampton Roads who currently works as an editorial assistant in The Virginian-Pilot sports department.

My beats are high school volleyball, swimming and girls soccer in addition to my normal administrative duties (taking phone calls from coaches, transcribing box scores, compiling agate and roundups, editing proofs), I also cover other sports and help manage our department's Twitter page (@757teamz) - one of the most followed high school sports handles.

In the years ahead, I hope to grow as a journalist, covering increasingly high-profile teams and athletes. From high school to college and professional, every level has something to offer and teach. I'm eager to learn.

Check out my clippings below. You'll find a variety of prose: profiles, features, advancers and gamers. I take pride in my ability to write for every situation and I think you'll enjoy the stories told. They make this job worth doing.
