Born and raised in New Jersey, Ms. Burnett is a graduate of Monmouth University where she majored in English and minored in anthropology and geography, mixing her two passions: writing and travel. Following college, Ms. Burnett entered the world of journalism, reporting for two years at The Coast Star and The Ocean Star newspapers along the Jersey Shore before moving to Boston and beginning her career in public relations at Salem State. During her time at The Ocean Star, Ms. Burnett won two awards for her writing from the New Jersey Press Association and received a proclamation from the State of New Jersey for her accomplishments.
Salem State University Associate Professor of history, Bethany Jay, PhD, played a central role in a Southern Poverty Law Center Report released on February 1 detailing the insufficiencies in the teaching of the history of American slavery. Through her work and the work of Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the nation’s educators will be provided with the tools needed to teach the topic correctly.
Salem State has been named one of the 10 top-performing institutions for Latino student success according to a new report by The Education Trust, a national non-profit advocacy organization. The report, titled “A Look at Latino Student Success: Identifying Top- and Bottom-Performing Institutions,” was released on Dec. 14. Salem State is the only institution in New England to have been included in the Top 10 list.

The Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] has filed another eminent domain lawsuit to acquire lands and property rights required for the coastal dune replenishment project.
The order, "Protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States", is designed to stop the immigration into the United States of people from seven Islamic nations -- Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen -- for 90 days. It also suspends refugee admissions for 120 days. The Trump administration hopes these orders will help strengthen the visa issuance program and deter terrorists from entering the country.
